Purpose:

The purpose of the role of Teaching Assistant within TRENT EDUCATION CENTRE is to support faculty members in delivering high quality education. You will support teaching across a range of courses including Business, management, accounting, numeracy, literacy and functional skills from entry Level to Level 5.

Your responsibilities will include assisting and delivering course materials, fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment, and guiding students through complex learning concepts. You will work closely with faculty to enhance the learning experience and ensure a productive educational environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and assist students during class activities, group work, and laboratory sessions.
  • Provide one-on-one or group tutoring sessions to reinforce classroom learning.
  • Aid in the setup and breakdown of classroom equipment and technology.
  • Offer guidance and support to students on assignments, projects, and exam preparation.
  • Monitor and record student attendance and participation.
  • Grade assignments, quizzes, and exams under the direction of the tutor.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
  • Assist with the creation and distribution of course materials, including handouts, presentations, and online resources.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff to foster a positive educational environment.
  • To actively be involved in staff development activities and peer observations.
  • As part of a team, play a full and pro-active part in engaging and retaining learners.
  • All aspects of planning, delivering, and assessing learner work, ensuring that all learning outcomes are met, using a variety of learning and teaching methods/materials.
  • Manage and lead modules/units and keep up to date with subject-specific and pedagogic innovations.
  • Support the organisation of special events, workshops, and extracurricular activities.
  • Adhere to legal responsibilities regarding health and safety, taking reasonable care for oneself and others affected by one’s actions in the sales process.
  • Comply with health and safety legislation and other company requirements relevant to the sales position.

Requirements

The candidate must meet one of the following minimum criteria:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area (e.g. Business, Management, Entrepreneurship, Strategy, Marketing, Finance, etc.), or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of professional experience in a related discipline

OR

  • Candidates with teaching qualifications or accreditations, such as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE), or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), will be considered favorably and given preference during the selection process.

OR

  • 2 Years experience in teaching and supervising students.

Essential:

  • Willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and software (e.g., LMS, Microsoft Office, Google Suite).

Desirable:

  • Applicants with relevant industry experience must be able to demonstrate ability to teach.
  • Previous teaching experience in similar environments.
