English Level 1 (NCFE & Open Awards)

Overview
These courses offer students who do not have GCSEs an alternative qualification in English language at Level 1. They provide you with practical skills, confidence and fluency, setting you on the path to gainful employment and higher education.
Progression Opportunities
Students who complete Level 1 English may progress to Level 2 English before starting higher education courses.
Units and Assessments
You will study the following three units and you will be assessed on them all separately:
- Speaking, Listening and Communicating
- Reading
- Writing
Course Details
Entry Requirements
You do not need any qualifications or experience in order to join this course in English Level 1 Functional Skills. The following requirements are all you need to join:
Age: 18+
Students take a Functional Skills test to see if they should join Entry 1, 2, 3 or Level 1, 2 Functional Skills in English.
All entry decisions are taken on an individual basis.
