Overview
These courses provide an alternative Level 1 English language qualification for students without GCSEs. They equip you with practical skills, confidence and fluency, setting you on the path to employment and further education
No prior qualifications or experience are needed to enrol on the Level 1 Functional Skills English course. You only need to:
- Be aged 18 or over
- Complete a Functional Skills assessment to determine the appropriate level (Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 or Level 2)
All entry decisions are made on an individual basis.
Students who complete Level 1 Functional Skills English may progress to Level 2, which can support entry into higher education courses.
You will study the following three units, each of which will be assessed separately:
- Speaking, Listening, and Communicating
- Reading
- Writing

The annual tuition fee for Home (UK) students is £700. *
